inspired you review and giveaway

Oh, heavens.

I will try not to write a book of my own here.

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while now,
you likely know how much I adore and thank God for Marian Parsons, a.k.a. Miss Mustard Seed.
Despite my all of my imperfections,
she has always encouraged and inspired me (and so many others) in more ways than she probably knows,
and she’s an incredibly gifted and creative ‘old soul’ to boot.

That said, I couldn’t be more excited to review her new book,
Inspired You: Letting God Breathe New Life into your Heart and Home,
published by Thomas Nelson and officially launched this week!

I just finished reading it cover to cover and one word comes to mind.

I anticipated beautifully written words, lovely photos and great tutorials,
but man, there were messages in this book that seemed like they were written just for me
(Don’t you love it when that happens?!)
and for anyone else is who is on a journey to create a home for the ones we love.

It’s a stop and look book and a stop and think book.

It’s also a stop and giggle book.
“You have no idea how excited I was when I found Proverbs 31:18: ‘She watches for bargains.’
That’s me!…I’m being a bit facetious, but there it is in the Bible.”

Although gorgeous photos are plenty, Marian’s book hits on far more than beautiful house stuff,
there is a realness inside about discovering hidden potential, finding contentment,
and matters of the home that are most meaningful.
And if they aren’t, they ought to be.
Oh, how I wish I could just type up chapters one and 9 for you here.

Total connection.

I love that the first chapter cuts right to the chase.
It isn’t just written for decorating folks who want another fabulous home decor book on their coffee tables.

Marian wrote Inspired You for those of us with real homes
who don’t realize their own style and potential.

It’s written for those of us who don’t think we could ever be that creative (or creative at all).

It’s written for those of us without huge home budgets.

It’s even written for, at least in my case, those of us with blogs whose hearts are in the right place,
but the delivery needs work.

At the end of chapter one, you are no longer allowed to use a single one of those excuses.

Darn it.

Inspired You is full of gorgeous and inexpensive DIY tutorials…

At one time or another, we might have unknowingly thrown etiquette and courtesy to the wind when trying to score,
and Marian shares her tips of the trade,
including the right approaches to finding and actually taking home those treasures
we find at yard sales, antique auctions, flea markets, etc.

I never would have even thought to ask yard sale folks if there was anything else that they were looking to get rid of
that was too heavy to move or didn’t make it to the yard sale pile yet!

I especially love this quote from her book,
“…God sees potential in each of us, no matter how big we’ve messed up or how broken we are.”

Marian inspires you to think of your home and the things you fill it with in the same way.

She most often uncovers that hidden potential with glorious paint
and there is an entire chapter dedicated to milk paint and chalk paint…

…with her tips on how to create beautifully painted pieces.

Inspired You is just such a beautiful book for so many reasons and chapters that I didn’t even cover here.
I hope I don’t sound like a Lifetime Channel commercial when I {honestly} say that,
if you haven’t already, I hope you’ll give your home and your heart
(or someone else’s heart and home)
the chance to be totally inspired by Marian’s book.

I am also so happy that I get to give away TWO copies of Inspired You!!!

Please enter me. Yes, I would love, love, love to have her book. Even through I don’t know MMS personally I feel like I do know her. She speaks to my soul. I’m so thankful to have found her website. My daughter and I compare notes about her blog. She has so inspired me regarding budget decorating. I’m a true “junky” I’ve always been able to see past the grime and brokenness of stuff I’ve come across. I can see what that item can be with some elbow grease, glue and paint. Just like MMS says “…God sees the potential in each of us…” So I see the potential in stuff that others pass up at estate, yard sales and stuff left on the curb. So please consider me, I would love to read what she’s written.
