graphite kitchen walls and silverplate

Happy weekend, loves.

I decided to take a bit of a risk yesterday.

{…after I texted my real interior designer and blogger friend Stephanie a paint swatch
and told her she had approx. 10 minutes to talk me out of it!}

Painting kitchen walls graphite gray may not be risky for some,
but it certainly was for me…
…and I {LOVE} it!!!
Isn’t that an awesome shade of gray?!
It’s so chic and I love the contrast.
…and only took a few tries!
4 sample pots and $20 later,
I ended up using a color that I already had in my basement {since 2010}!
The new sample pots were all too taupe and then I remembered
that I was going to paint a trunk charcoal gray a while back.
I found the container, added a little white to the pot, and had the graphite that I wanted.
Love it when that happens.
{Not lovin’ that I’m out $20, but lovin’ the fact that it saved me another trip to SW!}
 I can’t wait to show your more, but I still need to finish painting.
And, I need to finish painting because I just had to put up a planked wall
to see how it looked against the graphite a.s.a.p.!
{I was also dying to try my new, Dewalt cordless nailer from the Rockler folks. Holy love.}
THEN, I had to hang some metal shelves,
which I may switch out for weathered wood.
There just might be too much metal going on here.
THEN, my darling package from Alina Rose Vintage came
so I had to polish up my new vintage silverplate pieces and set them out.
{Everything in the box will get it’s proper beauty shot this week.}
I have a new product & tutorial to share too.
Hint: It gives galvanized metal an instant faux zinc finish.
{I still need to do the bottom two shelves in the photo above.}
So, that’s what I’ve {happily} been up to this weekend.

Moral of this story: Take more risks.

Let me know what you think!

  10. Girlfriend, I luuuuuvvvvv the new color! It’s perfect! I had hoped that you were going to tell us the name of the color that you used. After I painted my dining room, I loved the gray so much that I’m painting the bottom of my office walls, my studio AND my oldest son’s room shades of gray. I’ve got two of the three figured out but still need to color for my son. If you don’t mind, would you tell me the base gray that you started with? Thanks and I can’t WAIT to see your finished room! xo

    I can’t wait to see the finished room – wow! I’ve convinced my hubby to let me paint our kitchen and dining area a dark grey as well so hopefully it ends up looking as chic as yours appears!

  19. Linda says:

    Oh my gosh, I LOVE it! I did my kitchen in a grey last year. Thank you sample pots!! Some were too “baby shower blue”, others were too “taupe-y”, some were even too “purple-y.” I finally found the perfect shade, and I love it!

    That sneak peek of the kitchen looks gorgeous, Jami! And I’m really interested to hear about this faux zinc finish product! I’m really thinking about wrapping my dining room table top in metal and want to achieve a zinc look.

    Take care,

  23. Love it! Especially the planked walls! I want to do a wall like that in my son’s room. What did you use to do it….if you don’t mind me asking?

  24. Great work! Looks stunning!

  25. Oh Jami it looks amazing!!~
    You have to give us a tour of your whole house once your done with the painting, I would love to see it all!!
    Wishing you a lovely week.

  26. Jami,you are so close to the finish line.

    I love contrast of the graphite with the white planking. The use of galvanized and silver for the mid tone play of patina(s) is brillaint!

    I hope that your Breakfast sunrises were a success!

  27. cheryl says:

    Oh! That is the color we painted our bedroom in our first house. Brings back such wonderful memories!!

    Please, pretty please, share where you got those galvanized shelves! I’ve been looking for something like that for _ages_!!

  28. michele says:

    the charcoal shade looks awesome. this is just between you and me and the world wide web: i am not sure the grey i picked for our kitchen is the right one. and it was a doozy for my husband to paint!!!! i am usually good at shades, but grey is tough! please don’t tell him it may have to go!

    stop by if you have a moment as i just posted a giveaway:

    smiles to you.

  29. Loving it Jami!!
    I’m getting ready to makeover my son’s room in the fall and am looking for the perfect gray for his walls. Can you share the color name?

  30. HRH Sarah says:

    All I can say is, WOW!!! Gorgeous color, and super chic. We’ll be putting our house on the market soon so all my walls are white, but I would definitely consider using that color in the new place…. which we haven’t actually found yet ;)

  31. deborah says:

    Oooo, I like your gray! We recently moved and did a good bit of painting before we settled in. We used grays for our paint and I really like it all!

  32. I love it! Can’t wait to see it totally finished. :)

  33. deb says:

    Please share where you got your shelves, I would love some. Also, last summer I removed the carpeting in my living room and laid oak plywood cut into planks. I did stain mine 2 different walnuts, and the stain turned out 3 different shades. Then added random advertising on some boards. Loved it so much I did 1/4 plywood on top of my linoleum in my kitchen. Everytime, which seems often, a repair man comes out they always comment.

thank you for taking a minute to write...
