thoughts and inspiration

Quite frankly,
my brain is a far cry from organized at the moment and I have so many thoughts to share,
so I’m just going to get random with you for a minute.

Here are a few thoughts I’ve been thinkin’…

{productivity}
My kitchen makeover has by far been the longest process ever.
I’m feeling a bit frustrated {and excited for a fresh direction} all that the same time.
Frustrated that that plan is there but the follow through is slow moving.

You might have noticed.

It isn’t like I don’t have fifty-two reasons why things take me so long
but it frustrates me that I have to even find reasons.

Wait.
Scratch that.
It frustrates me that I feel like I need to give someone a reason.

I know that I’m productive. I just wish I could feel it…

…and I think I don’t feel it because I’m surrounded by too many unfinished ‘big’ projects
that I’ve set aside to take care of something else that needs taking care of.

And for the record,
I’m entirely grateful for the reasons why I set aside those projects.

I’m also entirely aware that the best things in life are worth waiting for.

When the last nail is nailed, this space will be the best I thought it could be
(within our budget, of course).

See?

Told you.

Random.

{color}
 Despite a little timeline frustration,
I am SO excited to freshen things up.

It’s time for a little change
and I really want to bring some more colors into my home.

And you might know me well enough by now
to know that when I say I’m bringing color in,
don’t expect a red wall or anything.
I’m just talking little touches of color here and there.
Still very clean and simple and very much me.

This photo by Miles of Light most perfectly sums up my palette inspiration.
Fresh, natural, muted and vibrant, earthen tones against an all white and gray backdrop.
Throw a sprig of lavender in there and you have yourself a deal, Sir.

 No, I don’t have a fever.

I’m smitten with this image too.
Colorful dishes mixed in with the white.
Completely random on purpose. Love it.

Speaking of colorful dishes,
my blue-green English transferware dish
(purchased from The Ugly Barn Farm on Etsy) arrived today.
So pretty.

Love the richness of the inky blue and purple cabbage against the white.

I usually find color inspiration in pictures of food
like these perfect shades of greens and yellows…

Pears are just gorgeous in any color.
Little known fact: A pear is my favorite fruit.

Vibrant, natural color against a white canvas.

I’m looking forward to a fresh slate for the Spring.

Still white, gray, faded, and simple…but fresh.

I’m excited about something else, too.

{table}
I found a heck of Craiglist deal on a 3ft. x 7ft. antique farm table!
I pick it up Friday and I cannot wait to refinish it.
Zinc countertops and a few other things come first though.

The length of the table is just about the width of my kitchen but it’s narrow, which will work.
A very long, rustic farm table is exactly what I wanted.
I think I may paint the base and leave the top in sealed natural wood.
Not sure yet. I need to stare at it for a while first.
Who knows,  I might just embrace the shabby and leave it alone entirely.
Hmm. I just noticed that the photo date is 2010. Odd.

{wardrobe}
Also on the to-do list is to sew Edyn’s Spring/Summer wardrobe.
Can’t wait!
I have a couple of outfits in mind for the little guy on the left too.
The big guy on the right is all into some Angry Birds game right now
so I just might make his day year with some painted t shirts.
He went nuts over a package of Angry Birds Band-aids that I bought today.
I’m afraid he might hurt himself on purpose.
;)

After writing this post, I’m not at all frustrated anymore, actually.
Just another reason why I love to write this blog.

  2. Jami it’s all so true and my vote on the table refinish would be definitely a painted base and natural/stain top. Good luck.

Your little girl looks so sweet! I am here in Australia sewing winter dresses for my little girl!

  4. Love the new table…long and narrow is perfect!! I say the whole thing painted!!! Just saying….!

  5. First of all, that table is gorgeous!! Wow! Score! Ok, you are creating in your mind and sometimes it takes a while to see results~but the process is working the way it should. I loved those images you shared…being a momma to those little ones takes a lot of time out of the day, I don’t know how you get ANYTHING done, except dinner on the table and a bath at the end of the day for the babies! Thanks for the texts yesterday~xxoo

  6. PS going to sallys this morning to that delicious barn…ya think I am gonna do some looking around for more stuff???

  7. PPS and I meant to add that your kids are darling!! Especially your precious daughter!

  8. Having big projects take time and more than one frustrates me, too, Jami. Once that starts, I try to focus on at least one to get it done. Although, it sometimes works out because you might find something during this time that is the “perfect” thing for that project! : )

  9. Girl you get tons done!! I totally know how you feel though as I look around at unfinished projects ~ I love the table!!

  10. Love the legs on your new craigslist table! I look forwarding to seeing what you decide to do to it. :)

Hooray for blog therapy. :) It may well be our color pallets are evolving in the same direction! Everything that really draws me in these days are hues of green, yellow, and aqua…but more muted than previously.

  12. Chalk the apron!
The images of your littles! Those better be on the Mothers Day gift giving list! Frame and center stage worthy.
(I hope that I don’t sound too assertive today!)

I am so glad you got that table! I think that if we didn’t give ourselves a bunch of projects we would be bored…or would we??? Love your bowl, going to go check out that Etsy shop. Can your children get any cuter? Get on that Angry Birds shirt, he will love i! Before you know it, he will be all grown up and you won’t be able to do that kind of stuff anymore. Embrace it now, the kitchen can wait :) Plus I don’t want him hurting himself with the new band aids, the shirt will distract him LOL

  14. JAMI!!! Get outta my brain- HAHAHA!!!! That table is awesome, could be beauty-i-ful!!!

  15. Isn’t blogging just like “talk therapy”…thanks for sharing yourself and your family.

The table is awesome….I vote for painting the base and leaving the top wood….LOVE IT.

  16. Jill Elaine says:

I can’t wait to see your zinc counters. Are you gonna do them yourself? If so will you do a tutorial for us? Pretty please??!

    Jamie,
the table is Fab-U-Lous! I love it, with those to die for turned legs. I am so glad you are making your dreams come true. There is something so delicious when you really can do it yourself and get the result you’ve dreamed of. May the kitchen you’ve always wanted be at the end of this little episode for you.

  20. Your table is gorgeous! it has a great farmhouse feel to it and I love the base. I think it’s going to be amazing no matter what you do! :)

    XO,
    Jane

  21. That is the sweetest pic of the little girl praying!

  22. Donna says:

    Hello my sweet friend!
I think you are one of the most productive women I know! You have so…much going on (I speak from experience here) which includes being a mom to those adorable children…I am always amazed at what you get done!
I love all the goodies and ideas spinning around in your head today!
    Have a blessed weekend
    hugs from here

  23. LOVE the farm table!! xoxo

  24. I need to email you some photos from my son’s 5th birthday. We made painted Angry Birds shirts for him and all his friends. It was a lot of work, but the kids all loved them. Yours will too. Digging up those photos and will email them to you.

  25. How2home says:

i love the photos that you have of all the dishes….and when you’re revamping the table…are you planning to paint it a totally different color or keep the natural oak color?i think it’ll look really nice as white too!

  26. Thank you! I didn’t have a way to respond to you via email so I hope you check back here. The table is undecided but I will at least paint the base white. Not yet sure what I will do to the top, but I think I might keep it as is (refinished, of course). Too beautiful to paint, although I’ve thought above doing some sort of weathering treatment to lighten it a bit.

thank you for taking a minute to write...
