Hallway Makeover Reveal!

Hi, sweets.
Remember this crusty hallway that I shared with you last week?
This is what it looks like now…
I have been painting and sewing my little fingers off and it was all worth it.
It’s so much brighter and airy, and finally reflects my style.
{Loving} the laundry!
I can say that I love my own work, right?
Let’s take a closer look, shall we?
Two antique chairs were given the white treatment…
The chair on left was painted with Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint.
The ruffled slipcover was made from a shirt purchased at Goodwill for 99 cents.
I’ll be sharing the shirt slip tutorial this weekend.
The chair on the right is an antique child’s folding chair
that I slipcovered with Rachel Ashwell’s Belgian Grain Sack Striped Linen.
(One of the most gorgeous fabrics that I’ve ever put my hands on.)
It feels like linen ought to and was worth every penny.
Aside from the old bucket purchased from Miss Mustard Seed at Luckett’s for $10
and a collection of Pottery Barn frames purchased over the years,
everything else in the hallway is yard sale/thrift shop finds or repurposed.
I made three laundry bags from a heavy cotton mattress cover
purchased at Goodwill for $1.99.
I’ll be sharing the tutorial this week or next.
I added a ruched ruffle to one bag using the Rachel Ashwell linen
used on the antique folding chair back.
It’s just a little way to coordinate the look and tie it together.
I hung the laundry bags from wrought iron hooks that I stole from my fireplace mantel.
(No worries. I have until Christmas to replace them.)
Above each hook, I used vinyl chalkboard labels from Ten23 Designs
labeled, “Whites,” “Delicates”, and “Darks.”
This is the view from the opposite end of the hallway.
The planked wall gallery that I blogged about HERE, is on the right.
The chalkboard door tutorial was one of my first posts and can be found HERE.
(Pardon the missing baseboard going into the kitchen. That room is next on the list.)
Gosh.
Looking that photo makes me want to hang a white ruffled linen tote from the doorknob.
Picture this one hanging there, if you will.
By the way, I just Googled “white ruffled tote” and that baby popped up.
Only $15.98 on Amazon.
I checked Etsy first and couldn’t find a single, plain white, ruffled linen tote.
Can you believe it?

Thinkin’ I might have to make some for my Etsy shop.

Speaking of my Etsy shop, I reopened!
Tomorrow is my 21st birthday so be sure to come back in the evening
for a little giveaway and discount code!
(Kidding about the age. Serious about the giveaway and discount.)
I posted about the stencil in my French Farmhouse post HERE
and my kitchen nook HERE (with a link to the tutorial).
It’s the “Anna Damask” stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils HERE
that I received as a Resident Blogger for the DIY Club,
The moral of this story is:

Don’t neglect your hallway.

Treat it like any other space in your home.
(Just don’t go knocking huge holes in walls to make it pretty!)

I notice my hallway now
and it’s another functional space in my home.

I have a laundry sorting station
and the two chairs serve as “time out” spots for little fannies that break the rules.
The chalkboard door comes in handy for notes, grocery lists, and reminders.
(I added a pretty quote for the picture though, albeit crooked.)

Sure makes the groggy trips to the nursery in the mornings more enjoyable!

Thanks for reading.

I also want to thank Stephanie at Cre8tive Designs for being my sounding board on this makeover,
and Layla at The Lettered Cottage for twitter help with taking photos of my low light hallway.
Thank you!

I love it! Expecially the time out chairs. We have one here also and although most of my children are to big for it, they all have memories associated with the chair and won’t let me part with it! I find that funny since they sat it in when naughty. :)

  11. Wow, this is my favorite thing you have done so far!! I am in love with this hall! I know how hard it is to make a long narrow hallway work..mine is a work in progress as we speak. What you did was brilliant with the hooks and the bags, the awesome stencilled wall, the details all work together like a beautiful symphony. Nicely done!

  12. I really love this hallway makeover! My family & I just moved into a house that needs some TLC – in the process in making it “functional” – and your ideas are great! I’m a new blogger and have added you to my blog roll list! Have a wonderful day!
