Valentine’s Mantel, Happy Valentine’s Day!, & The Scoop

Hi, sweets!
Warning:
The first part is a tad wordy but necessary if you wondered where I went.

I’m here.
I didn’t leave you.
You mean far too much to me.
For those of you that noticed,
thank you so much for your concerned emails.
Aw.
I did not intentionally go M.I.A. on you this week.
About 2 hours into our trip to Annapolis on Thursday,
I wigged out when I realized that the bag
with my laptop & camera
was still sitting on the kitchen table.
I had big plans to use the exciting 6-hour car ride
to edit my Valentine’s mantel photos,
write posts for it and Air Your Laundry Friday,
and respond to emails, etc.
No camera meant no Valentine’s mantel photos.
No laptop meant no posts (or Elmo for my little ones).

And, I just didn’t feel right about holing up downstairs
on my in-law’s computer when we got to Annapolis.

Everyone was already accomodating
my Friday morning trip to Wild Rose & Co. Marketplace
to deliver my handmade wares
(I’ll share more about that fun delivery & the goodies that came home with me this week
after I take some photos with my beloved and dearly missed camera.)
despite a jam packed weekend of family & fun,
which included a little of this…

Anyhow,
that’s the scoop.
I’m so sorry for going M.I.A.
and for boring you to death with the above explanation.
On a happy note,
I came home to a lovely package on my doorstep today.
Yep. Saved the wrapping paper & ribbon.

What was inside?
The zinc place cards and puffed tin heart
that I ordered from The Beautiful Life.
Of course,
this led to a quick shuffling around of my Valentine’s mantel
before the sun faded, to accommodate my new pretties.
I guess everything happens for a reason.
And here it is.
Again, if you read this post about my plans for the mantel, excuse the big black rectangle.
It’s still a work in progress and should look more like this eventually…
Still searching for my antique, chippy, white mantel too.

Anyhow,
nothing says Valentine’s Day
like a little lavender, French, and metal.
{insert sarcasm font}
Here are some close-ups of
a few of my favorite things…
I used lavender chalk to color a heart and outlined it with white chalk.
The zinc place cards spell, “ L O V E ♥.”
I originally bought them for my dining table,
but I like how they fill the narrow space
between the mantel and TV bottom.
They’ll have to stay.

Update: Ruth is offering 25% off EVERYTHING today only (Valentine’s Day)

with the coupon code LOVE.

The softest pair of knitted angel wings from England
that I ordered from Baba Moon on Etsy.
This is seriously my new favorite thing.
I just looked and there are only three left
(and Ruth just got them in last week)!

I installed a permanent wire clothesline
above the mantel and hung sprigs of lavender
and the word, “amour”
in different, re-purposed fabrics.
I added iron-on interfacing to the back to stiffen them up.

Love the texture.
I have other plans for the clothesline
post Valentine’s Day.
Let me just say that photos are great
at pointing out what doesn’t work.
I’m posting late and my light is gone
but I want to re-shoot my mantel photo.
The French quote mirror in the left vignette
should be moved to the left of the antique oval frame
& swap places with the the metal candle base
to add visual balance.
Also, in my hurried attempt,
I hung the oval frame on the wrong nail.
It should be a little lower.
(There was originally a frame where the heart is.)

{sigh}
I might just have to throw a new photo in a post this week.
It’s bugging me.
Either way,
I hope you like my mantel just the same!

I’ll be getting my life and house back in order,
and responding to emails over the next couple of days.
In the meantime,
 Happy Valentine’s Day,
my sweets!!!
Air Your Laundry Friday will resume this week.
