Freckled finds

Hope you lovelies are enjoying the extended weekend.
Mr. Grey goes in for surgery
tomorrow morning
so I’ll be away for a few or more days
while my Chicken Nugget heals.

So don’t go anywhere
because I’m not.

Please say a little prayer that all goes well.
A fairly routine procedure has this mother freaking out
at the thought of a mere 19 lbs. going under general anesthesia,
wondering what’s going on, where his mama is
(for a few minutes anyway)…

Okay. Stop it, self! Ugh.

I thought I’d leave you with a few photographs
of some freckled finds that I found this weekend.

On my way to the grocery store, I passed a yard sale

…in the middle of October.

Be still my heart when I happened upon
all of this lovely vintage and antique loot.
A vintage, zinc coated wash tub…

Stacks of antique linens, curtains, Battenburg laces, and trims.
{Laundry heaven}
She wanted $48 for it all but it came home with me for $10!
I didn’t haggle one. single. bit.
The sweet lady asked what I’d use it all for
so I told her that I had a blog and a handmade vintage style baby shoe
and home wares line that I’m working on, blah blah blah.
I must have tugged at heart string or something
because she handed me a bag and said, “Take whatever you want and I’ll take $10.”
She wanted the things that she had been saving to be loved.
Over the years, when a pillow case or something became too worn to use,
she would cut off the lace or trim and save it.
I am ever grateful for that sort of appreciation.
The piece to the right is a baby bib.

A stack of soon to be white or covered old books…

A little bird’s nest for 25 cents,
whose eggs will be removed and used elsewhere.
I’ll set the nest outside and I’m sure a little birdie
will steal it and make better use of it.
Small vintage canning jars…
(…that I crammed full of more laces and trims.)
And, these aqua Atlas jars.
Although they are both aqua,
the short one has a tad more green in it.

I’ll be adding the Atlas jars to my etsy shop soon.
That’s another story there.
I’ll share more when the time comes.
I’ve come across several finds that were too lovely to leave behind
but I have no use for them…thought maybe you would.

If you’re interested before they’re added, just email me.

I have a lot of color removing and Oxy-cleaning to do
in order to get the laundry finds white again
(or turn some of them white if they never were).

Thank you so much for your camera prayers.
Looks like it isn’t sick after all.
{sigh of relief}

  2. You sure did hit the jack pot with your linen. Beautiful!

My prayers are with you and your patient. Good luck!

That is funny about you paint mixup. I’m so sorry! Can’t wait to see it though.

  3. winnibriggs says:

Big hugs for you both for tomorrow xx

You have certainly found yourself some absolute bargains there. Can’t wait to see what you turn some of that stash into. We never seem to come across anything like that here now. Too many of us collecting I fear!

  4. awal.ny says:

Lots of love to Mr. Grey to heal him quick. Great finds.

  6. Don’t you love it when that kind of thing happens? It’s like they were there all along just for YOU!!

I really hope that everything goes super-smoothly. It’s so heart-wrenching, I know, for the Mummy maybe most of all. It’ll all be over soon. xxx

  7. Prayers to patient and his momma that all will turn out fine.

Those are some awesome finds! Can’t wait to see what you do with it all. That little blue/green jar is calling my name. Please let me know when it hits your Etsy shop.

    Hey girlie!
I am lovin’all of your amazing finds!
A garage sale this time of the year is quite the deal anyway around here.
I am sending prayers and hugs your way for Mr. Grey…and you!

Have a wonderful week on the mend.

  9. I am praying that all goes well for your little one and that his mama has peace. :)

  11. Andrea says:

My daughter had to go in for an extensive surgery when she was a year old. It was so incredibly scarey, but she did great. Be strong, and be there for him. He will do fine =) To put it in perspective, my best friends son was born at 24 wks gestation. He’s to date (he’s 4) had over 60 surgeries due to severe complications of being so premature. He’s done great with every one of them, but it doesn’t get any easier for his momma.

  12. I need to start getting up early enough to make it to some yard sales.

Lucky finds and I’m jealous! :)

  13. Jenni says:

I will definitely say a prayer for your little one, and for you, too! Having a child go through a surgery is always scary!

And wow, you truly did score on those finds of yours! I love what you did by hanging that lace in a swag in front of your fireplace mantel. (At least I’m guessing it is a mantel.) Sigh. These pictures are almost too beautiful! Maybe they will motivate me to get my chores around the house done and make something beautiful today! :)

I hope you have a wonderful Monday! :)

  14. First painting Longaberger, then books? Mmmm the books I hadn’t thought about… but I think I will try! Although I kind of like the way the contrast with all your shabby white. I have lots of vintage books and bring out the red ones for Christmas and Valentine’s day, etc… I would like to see some pretty ivory ones though, so maybe I’ll give that idea a try! Hope your little fella is well soon.

  15. Pam says:

Wow, you had a great yard sale haul. They are few and far between around here this time of year.

Hope the surgery goes quickly. At our local Children’s hospital they try to make the experience as fun as possible for the kids. They get to pick out a toy from the toy room, they can watch cartoons or play video games until surgery time, and they let the parents stay with the kids right up until they get wheeled in the OR. But, yes it is stressful until you get to see them again. Hopefully they will let you go into the recovery room ASAP after the surgery to give him hugs.

  16. Lisa says:

Jami, I’m so sorry to hear Mr. Grey has to have surgery. I’m sure everything will go well, but it must be very stressful for you and your husband.

Terrific score with all those wonderful finds!

  17. LOL! I can just hear your car brakes screeching to a halt, Jami! lol! I can…not….believe that you nabbed that load for $10! Holy cow, girl! That sweet old lady must’ave been a freckled-laundry kinda girl at heart, huh? :) I will say a prayer for your little guy for a successful surgery and quick recovery. Hugs to you both.

    xoxo laurie

  18. Hello my friend!
First I have to send my prayers your way for the surgery tomorrow. No matter how minor it is, it’s always a huge deal to a mommy.

As always your posts are amazing and comical. May your day and week be blessed!
    xoxo Natalie

So sorry little man needs the surgery. My baby had tubes put in her ear drums at 6 months old. Thankfully we had our own room, it was a 10 minute procedure, and she did beautifully. Will keep you both in my prayers.
